The ministry responsible for the administration of the Galapagos Islands (Consejo de Gobierno de Galápagos) introduced a new chart of requirements for tourists – national as well as international – to visit the islands. These requirements explain the steps needed to conserve and protect the special environment of these islands. In the future following requirements will be posted at the counters "del consejo de Gobierno" in the airports of Quito or Guayaquil before flying to the Galapagos.
These include:
- A round trip air ticket
- A hotel reservation or cruise during the period of year round trip ticket
- For longer stays you require an invitation of a permanent or temporary inhabitant of the Galapagos Islands (though no more than 60 days in a year)
- Purchase of the transit control card (tarjeta de control de tránsito)
The required documents must be submitted at the counters "del consejo de Gobierno" at the airports of Quito or Guayaquil.
Furthermore, it is still requested, as previously highlighted, that you fill in your personal information for a pre-registration on the website of the Consejo de Gobierno de Régimen Especial de Galápagos.
Currently, the submission of the physical documents is voluntary.
There is no fixed date when these regulations are being fully introduced, but they will be established after the information about the new requirements are widely spread and known among the people.
